As the Director of the SALT Center, Gabrielle E. Miller, EdD, leads one of the nation’s most prestigious programs for undergraduate students who learn differently. Her thoughtful approach centers around building and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with families, alumni and other strategic partners committed to student success. Previously, Dr. Miller spent a decade in the nonprofit world, most notably as President and CEO of Raising A Reader (RAR), the nation’s most evaluated family engagement and literacy program. Under her leadership, RAR was repeatedly recognized for being a model of best practice and was the recipient of over $10 million in grants and funding.
Before that, Dr. Miller spent more than fifteen years assuming progressively more responsible roles in special education clinical service, program administration and graduate teacher training/research at The Kennedy Krieger Institute (KKI) and The Johns Hopkins University (JHU) where she was awarded a tenure track faculty joint-appointment to both JHU’s Graduate School of Education and KKI’s Department of Special Education.
Dr. Miller began her career as a special education teacher in Queen Anne’s County Maryland where her interests in developmental transitions, family engagement, and research to practice first took root. Dr. Miller holds an Ed.D. and MS Ed. in Special Education from the John Hopkins University and a BS Ed. in Elementary and Special Education from The University of Delaware.
She proudly serves as a founding board member of the National Association of Family, School and Community Engagement and on the board of directors of the Learning Disabilities Association of America.
