Arizona Student Success Data
What We Know About Student Success
The University of Arizona wants students to be successful, to stay at the university, and to graduate. SSRI works to support the college, divisional, and institution-wide efforts to meet the institutional retention and graduation goals for undergraduate students.
While retention and graduation rates are critical institutional performance measures, there are other ways that we assess the student experience and program, and conduct research to improve success. Students, staff and faculty across campus work diligently to encourage student success at the University of Arizona and you can find data related to those efforts below.
Incoming Student Resource Needs
According to the New Student Interest Form (NSIF), students identify the following as their top resource related needs:
- Accessing/Managing Financial Aid
- Asking For Help
- Academic Support
- Navigating Campus Resources
- Time Management
Incoming Student Interests
On the NSIF, students also indicated high levels of interest in:
- Internships
- Campus Employment
- Academic Clubs
- Rec Sports
- Fraternities & Sororities
Each year, incoming Main Campus and Arizona Online students are invited to complete the New Student Interest Form. More than 80% of incoming students participate, providing information on their interest areas, resources they may need, and their future plans.
Here are some of the highlights.
Student Belonging
The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) 2021 was able to provide insight into students' Sense of Belonging at the University of Arizona.
Strongly Disagree | Disagree | Agree | Strongly Agree | |
---|---|---|---|---|
I feel comfortable being myself at this institution. | 3% | 11% | 56% | 29% |

Why Students Don't Reenroll
After the priority registration window closes, students who meet specific population criteria and are not enrolled for the next major term receive a targeted message as they authenticate into university applications. The message alerts the student they are not enrolled and invites them to let us know their plans through the optional survey.
The following are the top reasons students have relayed that they are leaving the University of Arizona:
- Transfer to different institution
- Finances
- Health/well-being
- Return to Arizona at later date
- Pursuing work
- Don't feel I belong
